Meet The Coaches

Coach Jim Petrik

Coach Petrik is entering his 18th year of coaching varsity basketball. He has previously been the head coach for W-T-P-R Boy’s, Wing Girl’s, Beulah Girl’s, and Shiloh Christian Girl’s. At Legacy, Petrik’s teams have qualified for the state tournament all 7 years and were crowned the NORTH DAKOTA CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONS in 2017. The Sabers won their first ever WDA Tournament Championship in 2020. He has received coach of the year honors in district or region play in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2020. Jim is currently a 6th grade Social Studies teacher at Simle Middle School. His wife, Kylie, is also a teacher with the Bismarck Public School System. They have two daughters, Madyn and Jerzy.

Coach Frink has been coaching basketball at the varsity level for 24 years. He spent 4 of those years with Coach Petrik at Shiloh High School before coming to Legacy. He has been with the Legacy Girls Basketball program for 8 years. Corey spent 14 years in education before changing his profession to farming. He farms just north of Parshall. Corey lives in north Bismarck with his wife Jess, and his step son Dylan. Since Dylan is now gone working on his own, Corey can now enjoy golfing and spending time outdoors with Jess.

Coach Jon Berryhill - JV

I am originally from New Mexico. I relocated to North Dakota where I graduated from New Town High school. Upon graduating I continued playing basketball at Mayville State. For the past 8 years I have been involved in youth basketball as a coach and skill development basketball trainer. Currently, I am an Assistant Director for the MHA Nation Satellite Office in Bismarck. This is my sixth year with Legacy Girls basketball program and I look forward to being part of this successful program. I share this journey with my fiancé Leslie, daughters – Arianna & Mia, sons – Makiya & Jayden.

Coach Corey Frink

Coach Cassie Askvig - Sophomore

I am from Minot and I graduated from Minot High School in 2016. I played college basketball at the University of Mary for four years where I graduated with a degree in Exercise Science. I am currently pursuing my Masters in School Administration from the University of Mary. I am in my fourth year of teaching 7th grade Life Science at Simle Middle School. This is my fourth season coaching at Legacy. I am grateful to be part of such a knowledgeable, hard working coaching staff.

Coach Alexis Dressler

I am from Bismarck and graduated from Legacy High School in 2020. I am currently in my Senior year of the nursing program at the University of Mary. I am in my third year on the Legacy coaching staff. I am happy to do whatever is needed for any team within our program.

Coach MacKenzie Boone - Freshman

I am from Bismarck and I graduated from Legacy High School in 2020. I played college basketball and softball at Bismarck State for two years and currently I am a senior at the University of Mary studying Biomechanics and Sports Medicine. This will be my first season on the Legacy coaching staff.
